Subject: Masto
Lubricator
Dear Captain Coyne,
Please find herewith a
few comments covering use of the Masto
Lubricator machine.
Due to the fact that
we were all engaged with cargo tanks repairs right
To the arrival Kharg
Island on July 21st, wc had greased all mooring
Wires after departure
Kharg Island, while on route to Mina Saqqr
Where I had signed
off.
Greasing of one
mooring wire takes about 20 to 30 minutes and
Penctration of the
grease is excellent and of the quality that cannot be
Matched by hand
greasing. For good greasing and lubricant penetration is
Very important that
right air pressure is supplied to the machine, winch-
Wire moving at the
medium speed-even preferably speed slightly on the
High side.
I have found
consumption of the grease higher as marked in prospectus,
About 60% higher, but
same might be due to the facts that mooring
Wires were dry-not
greased for some time and addition reason was that
Crew was not handy at
the beginning with use of the Masto
Lubricator.
At the very beginning
boson and crew, due to the lack of experience in
The use of the machine
were not willing to use it, were using too much
Grease, however after
my intervention and a few experiment with the
Speed of the wire and
pressure, consumption of the grease
Considerably reduced
and after a few wires they became handy with the
Use of the machine and
results were far above those of hand greasing,
Especially in the
regard of quality and time required for completing one
Wire.
Due to the above facts
I recommend Masto lubricator for use
Aboard the Company’s
vessels.
Due to the above facts
I recommed Masto lubricator for the use
Aboard the Company’s
vessels.
